Albert Otto "Al" Momm Captain, United States Navy From a contemporary press report: Albert Otto "Al" Momm, 93, a retired Navy Captain who later had a career as a math instructor, died of cancer May 4, 1998 at the Charleston Retirement Center in Baltimore, where he lived for the last three years. Before 1995, he had lived in Annapolis for 27 years. Captain Momm, a 1928 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, served 30 years in the Navy until his retirement in 1958. Earlier in his career, he served aboard destroyers, cruisers, aircraft carriers and battleships. He was an inspector at the Naval Gun Factory in Washington during World War II. After the war, he was assigned to the Bureau of Ordnance, where he became involved in the Navy's guided missile program. He later served with the Operational Development Force and Surface Anti-Submarine Development Detachment. In retirement, Captain Momm received a master's degree in mathematics from Duke University, then worked as a math instructor at the University of Connecticut from 1961 to 1969 and Wroxeter School in Arnold, Md., from 1974 to 1975. His hobbies included woodworking. His first wife, Christine McOsker, died in 1954, and his second wife, Elizabeth Ryan Momm, died in 1970. Survivors include his wife, Blair Bass Momm; three children from his first marriage, John Momm, Barbara Karcher, and Sister Rose Christina Momm ; three stepchildren, Michael V. Phillips and Susan B.
